The kinesthetic sense allows us to perceive our movements, it includes end organs, nerve endings in the muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones and joints.

The nerve endings in the inner ear allow us to perceive our body in space and in different directions of movement.

Together with the kinesthetic sense, the sensory organ in the inner ear forms the proprioceptive nervous system (concerning the perception of what is happening in one's own body).

Approaches and methods I have tried:

Think in motion

I explore and learn new knowledge with the body, following the path I learned in early childhood about basic movements and body connections. I go back to a time when I still thought in motion.

Following the structure of the Bartenieff Fundamentals (Basic 6), I explore the research question in the following Rhine order:

- Breath

- Core Distal (Navel Radiation)

- Head Tail (Spinal)

- Upper-Lower (Homologous)

- Body half (homolateral)

- Diagonal (Contralateral)

I allow the research topic to move me.

Inspired by Ciane Fernande's "Somatic Performative Research"

modulate movement patterns

I know the movement "WHAT?" and explore the "HOW?"

What changes in the inner perception when I execute the movement pattern?

What changes in the external perception when I execute the movement pattern?

I change and modulate the movement pattern. (I move faster, slower, smaller, larger...)

What does the modulation change in inner and outer perception?

Exploring space and time in motion

Measuring space and time in motion:

The space inside me, between joints and muscles, between thoughts and dreams, the time between heartbeat and heartbeat, between inhaling and exhaling.

The space between here and there, in between where I'm not. In reference to: objects, my own body or people.

In the improvisation I place myself, my body in reference to the one around me.

It allows me to personally experience that I can only be here, never there, but without there I wouldn't be here. I can only be here now, my heart beats in this now. I move and my body fills the space I wasn't before.

I explore the range of motion within me, which micro-movements allow my joints, my chest that rises and falls with every breath, without changing my relation to reference points in space.

If I change just one thing, everything changes, reference points, time, space. If I stand in one place for a long time, motionless, the shadows on the wall change, the earth rotates, I rotate with it and am always in motion despite my motionless body.

Work with the environment

How does my environment influence my movements?

Exploring behaviors through the exploration of dance improvisation. Movement qualities and generated attitudes can lead to conclusions about personal well-being in purposefully designed contexts.

Manipulation of the environment e.g. through: different places, backgrounds or working with objects, sounds, music, fellow dancers, observers and their attitude.
